With an extensive equine education under her belt, Maryann put her talents into practice riding trackwork and working on studs, as well as a stint as a polo groom.
An integral part of her career growth was a three year period as stud secretary with leading New Zealand nursery of the time, Redoubt Park.
After developing talents in the Marketing and Management field, Maryann pursued a new avenue with top New Zealand beverage producer Rio.
But even though she wasn't working full time with horses, Maryann still pursued her passion competing in equestrian events whilst living on a twenty five acre property outside Auckland. During that period, Maryann's three children Rebecca , Tom and Elle were born.
It wasn't long before the racing bug was to take hold of Maryann again, with 1998 Melbourne Cup winning Trainer Brian Jenkins commissioning Maryann to pre-train his racing team which was to eventually include top mare Jezabeel.
Maryann quickly earned a solid reputation among astute New Zealand racing men, and her pre-training and spelling business grew rapidly.
Among her client base in New Zealand were Sunline's trainer Trevor McKee, Bonecrusher's conditioner Frank Ritchie, former top jockey and now trainer Bob Vance, as well as famed Kiwi nursery Ra-Ora Stud.
In 1998 Maryann turned to full time training, with success coming fast with her first runner successful at Avondale.
And the winners kept coming. Maryann began being viewed by many as a trainer with the ability to get the best out of horses, which under other conditions, were proving to be less than successful.
At that point Maryann chose to raise the stakes. Backing her own ability, Maryann decided to campaign a young team of horses in the 2000 Queensland Winter Carnival. Her success was immediate. This facilitated a move to Australia, closing her New Zealand stable, in pursuit of better Australian prizemoney.
Maryann setup her stable at Hawkesbury. In her first year in New South Wales, Maryann finished equal third on the Hawkesbury premiership ladder, whilst she recorded the second highest win strike rate at Hawkesbury behind Clarry Conners, but ahead of top trainers Gai Waterhouse and John Hawkes.
But the lure of training in Queensland proved to be to strong, with Maryann and partner David Weigold moving the stable and family to the Gold Coast in January 2003.
If statistics mean anything, the move was spot on.
After arriving half way through the 2002/03 season , Maryann saddled up 21 winners and countless place getters last season. Proving she offers both quality and quantity, Maryann also produced a stakeswinner and two stakesplacegetters during that period.
But perhaps the most important statistic is Maryann's amazing win strike rate of around 3.0. This means that Maryann is currently training a winner for every three runners she produces.
This strike rate makes her one of the leading winner producing trainers not just Queensland, but Australia.
